Fallingwater is a weekend home which Frank Lloyd Wright designed for Edgar Kaufmann Sr. Wright designed the house in 1934-1935, and it was built in 1936-1939. It was built over a 30 ft (9 m) waterfall on Bear Run, a stream that feeds into the Youghioheny River. It is about 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Pittsburgh. The closest town is Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania. This photo shows the main living area of the house. The waterfall is below the lower, cantilevered deck. Kaufmann was the owner of Kaufmann's Department Store, the leading department store in Pittsburgh in the 1930s and 1940s. Frank Lloyd W
