Looking south at the west courtyard (rear) of the Robert C. Weaver Federal Building in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The courtyard was intended to be used by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) workers, but proved too small, with too few trash receptacles, and with too few seating areas for luncheoners. Although many of these problems were corrected (against the architect's wishes), the courtyard was further reduced in size by the construction of L'Enfant Plaza to the west.
