sas royal hotel, copenhagen, 1955-1960. architect: arne jacobsen, 1902-1971. and neighbour... in the SAS royal hotel as in most of the other abstract works of this period, it is difficult to find any traces of the intelligent contextualism jacobsen praticed in works like the stelling house seen below. soon after the hotel, jacobsen would return once again to his neoclassicist roots to produce sensitive and subtle reinterpretations of local architecture in the national bank, copenhagen 1961, st. catherine's college, oxford 1962, and the mainz city hall. like the hotel, these are highly elitist
