In the dark a monument lies, A relic of an era unseen. ‘Neath stars aplenty in Wyoming skies It remembers an engine’s full steam. The granite sides and sloping walls Rise from the prairie at night. The stars above, a hallowed hall, Make an incredible sight. The American Pyramid. The Ames Monument, near Laramie, WY, marks the highest point on the original transcontinental railroad and was built between 1880 and 1882. Now, nearly 150 years later, the rails and old town have vanished into time, relics of a bygone era. This photograph was taken on the evening of July 2, 2024, using a Canon EOS RP
