Architect Moshe Safdie designed the National Gallery of Canada. Prior to construction, upon touring the site for the first time he was immediately struck by its proximity to, and view of, Parliament Hill. He determined that the Gallery absolutely must have a Grand Hall, suitable for formal evening gatherings (of politicians), with a large panoramic window overlooking parliament. Safdie’s architecture embraces the shapes and forms of Euclidean geometry - rectangles, squares, and triangles are evident throughout his work.
