Soldiers and Sailors Monument, located on Parade Plaza near the corner of State and Water Streets in New London, Connecticut, is a 50-foot Westerly granite obelisk topped by a female figure representing Peace standing on a sphere, holding a palm leaf in her hands. [Note: The source says that she has a dove on her head, but this is not the case; seagulls are known to sit there.] It is dedicated to the soldiers and sailors from New London who fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War, and was dedicated on May 6, 1896.
